Bella

I’m finishing up the winter semester with only two weeks left, after Thanksgiving break. I was able to head home and surprise my family for the holidays with the bonus money I received from Dylan. Of course my family thinks I managed to get a cheap red eye. But nonetheless, they were happy and excited to see me after not being home for the better half of six months. My niece, Leanne, was definitely the happiest to see me. While I was excited to meet my new sister in law, Delilah. She is engaged to my brother, Ryan and it was the first time we met. They had a surprise engagement with no real talk of a wedding yet.

My parents asked about my grades, my love life, and what I was up to in New York. It was foreign to them that I was making it out on my own without asking them for any help. But I was determined to keep them away from my money and what I did for a living. It wasn’t that I was embarrassed of what I did, but I just didn’t want to deal with the questions and the judgment that would come with me telling the truth. I tried telling Reagan a few times, but each time I was talk-blocked I took that as a sign that I shouldn’t tell her anything.

“So what are you going to do over winter break?” Sara asks.

“What do you mean?”

“Well, we can’t stay in the apartment because it’s getting fumigated, we can’t stay on campus because it’s closed, and I doubt you want to go all the way home,” Sara points out. I hadn’t considered any of this yet.

“Shit, I hadn’t thought about it yet.”

“I have an apartment in the city with one of the men who asked me to stay with them. Maybe Dylan will want you to stay in the city with her?”

“Do you think she will?”

“I mean there are a lot of holiday parties she’ll need a date to during the break,” Sara points out.

“That’s true. I guess I’ll have to see what she’s thinking before I try to make any plans.” I sigh. Some days I don’t mind being Dylan’s, but some days it feels like I belong to her. Like I have to check in with her about everything and anything before making plans.

“Are you liking your arrangement?”

“So far it’s just been two work events that were fine and one time she took me to her apartment just to show me around in case it came up. It is beautiful honestly, but I don’t know. I just hate having to check in with someone sometimes. It makes me feel like I’m back with my parents.”

“She means well though, I’m sure once you know if you can leave the city it will be more freedom,” Sara points out.

“That’s true.” I nod.

“Aren’t you seeing her tonight? Why don’t you head out early so you can ask her?”

“That’s a good idea.” I head to my room to start getting ready.
